Good times assured. Access to the best trails guaranteed. All tours are for average cross country riders of reasonable fitness to ride about 3 hours or more each day if they choose. This is not a fully guided tour. We just put together a group of 10 keen mountain bikers with their own bikes and organise the logistics. You only need to pay for your own meals and airfare after the trip cost.
All tours include: twin share accommodation and mini bus transport with your bike.
Not included: airfare and meals
Having ridden in NZ on a couple of previous occasions, I had a feel for how awesome it is, but the places your tour went showed me a whole new range of possibilities. The K2K and Timber Trails were highlights in terms of getting to see parts of the country that were not just MTB parks. There was no shortage of riding and enough flexibility in the trip so that those who needed to take a break could easily do so. Length of trip was also just right.
Accommodation was perfect with a wide range of types, each of which suited the location. Staying a couple of nights in the same spot also made it easier than having to pack and unpack each day. Transport was also excellent with our bikes well looked after.
I have thought about whether there are any changes that could be made and it has been a real struggle as I think you have nailed it. The only thing that would be good would be to try to stay only one night in Auckland, but I understand the value in spending 2 nights in terms of using it as a staging point for people coming and departing at different times, storing bike bags and being able to wash down at the end.
I will definitely be signing up to another trip.
Pam and I just wanted to thank you for organising and hosting our recent MTB trip (NZ Bliss trip 2016).
Having only been mountain biking for 12 months I must confess to being a little nervous about taking on some of the best trails on offer in NZ. Pam probably even more so than me although her triathlon fitness was helpful.
Any apprehension was soon put to rest as we arrived in Rotorua and set about tackling the awesome trails in Redwoods and the downhill slopes at Skyline. Only used about half the allocated uplifts on the gondola before the legs grew weary but had a sensational day.
Not thinking it could get any better, we moved on to Taupo and hit the craters of the moon MTB park. These trails are fantastic. The ride we did around lake Taupo was a real highlight of the trip for me with some magical photo opportunities from the ridgetops.
Best was yet to come with the 2 day ride on the timber trail with an overnight stay after day 1 at the remote but beautiful setting of Black Fern lodge next to a waterfall and fast flowing creek surrounded by mountains. This was an unforgettable experience with the group all pitching in to cook up a storm in the kitchen and relax afterwards with a couple of quiet drinks and recap on the day’s riding. I must say, we were glad to take up the offer of the lodge owner to 4WD us back to the trail the next morning as some of those hills into the lodge were huge!
It was great to go with some existing friends from our club but this type of trip would be great also for lone travelers who love biking and a sense of adventure and making new friends.
As with our chosen pursuit, this type of activity is not without some risks and it was unfortunate that one of our group, Shane, took a heavy fall early in the piece while pushing the limits a little and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Thanks John for facilitating such a wonderful trip and we would highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes their mountain biking and wants to tackle some great trails and see some awesome country.

The New Zealand trip was one of the best holidays I have had in a long time. It was far better than I had expected. I was hesitant to go at first thinking I would be left behind but you rang me and made me feel at ease. The tracks were amazing nothing like I had experienced before. John you took us on the best tracks and saved the best ones till last at Rotorua. The accommodation was great too. I was thinking we were staying in cabins all the way. I couldn’t believe we had a spa in our hotel at Taupo what a surprise especially after a long day of riding. The natural hot spring at Kerosene Creek was awesome too. The remote place at Blackfern Lodge was something else, very close to nature. The food was fantastic too. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone even if you have just got into mountain biking. Thanks John.
